Job summary
The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Research Professor and Executive Director of the FARM (Flexible Array of Radars and Mesonets).  Duties include directing the mobile Doppler radar and instrumentation facility in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences and leading and conducting scientific research related to data collected by the facility.

Duties & Responsibilities
As a Research Professor, conduct scientific research related to data collected by the mobile Doppler radar and instrumentation facility, including preparing reports and articles for publication in professional journals, presenting research results at professional meetings, submitting grant proposals for external funding, contributing to research mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students, and contributing to public engagement activities related to the facility.

As Executive Director, direct the strategic, tactical, and scientific plans for the mobile Doppler radar and instrumentation facility, including system design, field project development, facility personnel management, provision of systems and services, interaction with the University and funding agencies, as well as with University and external scientists. 

Required Qualifications:
  •   Ph.D./Sc.D. in meteorology or atmospheric science
  •  At least 10 years of experience in each of the following (years may be concurrent): in field data collection and research, and in radar facility direction

Salary and Appointment Information:
This is a 100% full-time, Academic 12-month appointment, non-tenure track position, renewable yearly subject to funding, and positive performance evaluations. The target start date is October 1, 2023. The salary for the research professor position is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A 0% executive director title comes with an administrative stipend.
