Assistant Professor (tenure-track)

Condensed Matter Experiment (2 positions) - Materials spectroscopy and imaging, STEM, ML/high-throughput

Job summary
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Alabama invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professorships, to start August 2023, in experimental condensed matter physics and/or materials-based machine learning, with a focus on materials spectroscopy and imaging.
Areas of interest include (but are not limited to) optical/near-field/Raman, ARPES, synchrotron x-ray, neutron, STEM, and/or Auger/CL/PL spectroscopies. Machine learning and high throughput materials discovery and property prediction is also of interest, as is any other effort that fits synergistically with experimental efforts. Applicants who can leverage our 2023 acquisition of a Spectra 300 TEM with EELSand Lorentz capabilities are of high interest. Priority will be given to candidates with unique characterization techniques that complement existing expertise. Applicants whose research will leverage national laboratory research facilities are encouraged to apply.
